Tara Owens will be entering her third year at the helm of the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings. Her first two seasons were very successful as she guided the Lady Vikings to finishes in the Finals and Semi-Finals at the CIAA Tournament, respectively.

Owens comes to ECSU from Cheyney (PA) University where she served an assistant coach for two years and the head coach for the past 6 seasons. At Cheyney, she also held the title of Senior Woman Administrator and Project Administrator/Activity Director for the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP).

A 1993 graduate of Virginia State University, Owens played under former head coach Bertha Cummings from 1988-1991. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia State University in Physical Education/Health and completed her Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision at Cheyney University in 1998.

Coach Owens is a member of various organizations including of the National Association of Female Executives, Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the Black Coaches Association.
